Claude Desktop talks directly to Anthropic's API and offers no setting to swap the endpoint or supply your own API key.
What works instead
- Claude Code — officially supports base-URL overrides via environment variables (see its guide).
- MCP servers — Claude Desktop can call local MCP servers; you can build one that proxies to the gateway behind the scenes.
